Pool: Co Creative Approaches to Development - Gillian

What Do We Mean by Development?

*Development or provision of basic services - transportation, sanitation, security, health

*Economic development - providing jobs, and conditions and opportunities for local economy

*Self-reliance

*Co-creative stuff is implicated where community is intersecting with local government

*It interfaces with advocacy, most development initiatives have some advocacy

What Examples Have We Seen of Co-Creative Approaches to Development

*The case studies at this event

http://pigletsforprogress.org/ca

Shackdwellers International - operate in 43 countries (also called Slumdwellers International) - there are small supportive NGOs, daily savings groups, they have a whole approach based around 5 rituals which culminate in the “co production of services”.

1. Horizontal learning and exchanges - very little training that happens, its about connecting communities with communities, for eg daily savings

2. Enumeration is a ritual where communities collect basic data about themselves

ETC.

See the chart below from their website

NOTES CONTINUED BELOW….

Hybrid Value Chains – Ashoka and the private sector work together to create products for the social sector. Co-creative process.

Ashoka fellows are involved in co-creative initiatives

+++

Barefoot college

+++

In terms of initiatives, there is room for top down, bottom up and horizontal initiatives.

Bottom up is often stimulated through horizontal or sideways peer to peer exchanges, where they are talking about their experiences and solutions.

The north doesn't trust the south with its money and they need control practices like log frames and it becomes control of the process and then it accentuates divisions because you have to be very controlling of all your relationships to account for the funds disbursing.

There are still very instrumental and technical understandings whereas the cultural and relational, developmental aspects that are so key are ignored. A lot of the most marginalized don't get engaged.

MEETING ROOM - A CO-CREATIVE MARKETPLACE CONCEPT - CHRISTINA
What might an online marketspace look like that promotes co-creative impact-related work? "Product" listings might include: - books - community crafted products - volunteer opportunities - campaigns - opportunities to engage/collaborate Target market (who might be interested?): - we as changemakers / co-creative practitioners - people looking for meaningful engagement with the world Possibilities / potential directions - list country based opportunities - co-creative storytelling from people who've engaged w/products - create a trip-advisor type of rating/reputation - Create a "Christina's list" of recommended social impact initiatives Potential Challenges - guaranteeing fulfillment: in the short-medium term, filfilling "orders" will be logistically/financially challenging - financial sustainability: linking to external (initiative owned) pages for fulfillment means no financial inflow from sales/engagement. Need to explore alternative financial models.
Waterfall - Co-Creative Leadership - Hester

Red Umbrellas - Creating Structures for Systemic Cocreation - Irma

Cafe - How Does CoCreation Evolve with a Large Group - Nathalie
